Ann Curry
Ann Curry, an American photographer and journalist who has been covering wars and natural disasters for nearly 45 years. Her focus is on the suffering of those living in these regions. Curry covered wars in Kosovo, Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo. Ann Curry, (born November 19th 1956, Agana American journalist and TV news reporter and anchor who was best known for her role as a correspondent on the Today show a morning news show that was telecast by the National Broadcasting Co. (NBC). Curry was known especially for the reporting she did on natural catastrophes and war devastated countries. Curry's mother was Japanese American and her U.S. Navy-sailor dad were both prominent figures in her life. Following World War II, her parents met while her father was serving in Japan. Because of her father's military service her family has moved quite a lot. They eventually arrived in Ashland Oregon where Curry attended the high school. After graduating from University of Oregon, Curry obtained a bachelor's degree in journalism degree in the year 1978. She was exposed to a variety of cultures as well as her experiences throughout her childhood may have influenced her empathy approach to communicating about international matters. Curry's family moved frequently and Curry did not stay in one school for more than two months. Curry attended various schools like San Diego Alameda Oregon Virginia and Virginia. Ashland is where she finally graduated from the high school. She started a new career path that could lead to a successful career as a broadcasting intern for KTVL Channel 10 Medford. It was her first time as a female news correspondent at this station when she was just 22. Then, she stepped onto becoming an anchor and reporter for KGW KGW, which was an NBC affiliate station located in Portland. Four years later, she relocated to Los Angeles and became a reporter for KCBS TV. Through her tenure of six years with the station, she won two Emmy Awards.
